Verb Phrases

In Kannada, like in other Dravidian languages the simple verb takes many forms based on the circumstances by attaching itself with modal auxiliary verbs,negative forms to convey various moods like positive ,negative, directive statements.In this note lets see how the root verb Hogu ( Go) is modified based on the circumstances.

Case 1:  To give a command -

You go - Neenu hogu  (or) Neevu hogiri.

Case 2:  Modal forms

He must go now - Avanu iga hoga beku

Case 3: To give a command in the negative

Don't go there - Alli hoga baaradu.

Case 4: Stating a wish

Shall we go to cinema ? - Naavu cinemage hogONNa ?

Case 5: Simple statement in the negative

He did not go to cinema. - Avanu cinemakke hogalilla.

Case 6:  Conditional statement

It will be good if he goes there - Avaru a lli hOdare chennagi iruthe.

Case 7:

He went there and came. - Avanu alli hogbiTTu banda(nu).
