Opposites in Kannada - Part I

This post lists some opposite words in Kannada


Kannada viruddha padagalu ( opposites ) :-
In the next few posts we will look into some opposites and their usage. The kannada equivalents are highlited in blue.


1. right - seri         x    wrong - thappu

He told the right answer -> Avanu seriyada uttara helidanu.
He was wrong in saying that -> Avanu aa tharah heLalu thappu aagittu

2. tall- yetthara      x    short - kuLLa , kuLLi

He is a tall man -> Avanu yettara manusha.
He is short -> Avanu kuLLanu.
He looked short beside him -> Avanu avana pakka kuLLa kaanisthanu.

3. long - uddha     x    short - gidda

Rajdhani express is a long train -> Rajdhani express uddhavaada railu.



4. fat - dappa        x    thin - theLLage

He is fat -> Avanu dappagidaane.
He has become fat -> Avanu dappa aagidaane.
She is very thin -> AvaLu thumba theLLaga idaale.

5. rich - shreemanta   x poor  - badava

He is rich -> Avanu shreemantaidaane.
He has become poor -> Avanu badava aagidaane.



6. first - modala   x last - Koneya

My first job was with IBM -> Nanna modala kelasa IBM nalli ittu.


7. rough - katora  x   smooth - mridu

8. strong - gatti    x   weak  - durbala

9. dark - kappa   x  fair - bellage

10. dark - katthalu  x light - belakku

11. sacrifice - Tyaaga x svaarthapara - self-interest
